Mission
Man Church, is dedicated to raising men up to stand for Christ in the everyday world. We are called to build each other up through mentoring, encouragement, and discipleship. This is accomplished through a three step process of building a man of God. Encouragement of another man, then mentoring and finally discipleship training. This process would continue on with that man building another man of God.
Encouragement
Ephesians 4:29 NIV Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen .
Encouragement is an act of lifting others up with kind word or actions. Everyday we come in contact with people who help others stay on track in their Christian walk or just give an uplifting word. Most people thrive and are driven by honest, caring encouraging words. Whether it’s a co-worker, a stranger on the street or in a store, someone at church, or friends and family, we should build each other up with honest encouragement.
Mentoring
Romans 1:12 NIV That is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.
A mentor is a wise and trusted counselor or teacher. Paul writes these words in Romans and they seem to describe his relationship with Timothy. Paul takes Timothy under his wing and not only trains him in his faith journey through words but also in his actions. Sometimes we are the mentor and at other times we are the mentee. We should seek Godly men that can give us Godly counsel. They should provide wisdom not only in words but in actions as well. Actions speak louder than words. We, in turn, should pass that example to other men and so on, and so on, and so on.
Discipleship
Matthew 28:19 NIV Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Discipleship is the personal activity of two or more persons helping each other experience a growing relationship with God. Discipleship is being before doing, maturity before ministry, character before career. Every Christian should be both a disciple and a discipler. You have the awesome privilege and responsibility to be a teacher and a learner of what it means to be in Christ, walk in the spirit and live by faith. You may have a role in your family, church or Christian community which gives you specific responsibility for discipling others such as husband/father, pastor, Sunday school teacher, discipleship group leader, etc. But even as an appointed discipler, you are never not a disciple who is learning and growing in Christ through your relationships. You may not have an “official” responsibility to disciple anyone, but you are never not a discipler.
