Luke 2:6 -7NIV

21 Dec

6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Thought of the day….

Today’s verse is just a little bit of the Christmas story as told in Luke. I’ve heard this story many times in my life in many settings. It is a grand story for a grand Prince. This morning on my commute I heard the story once again in all its grandeur. It told of the Angel that appeared to Mary, the trip to Bethlehem, no room at the inn, the wise men, the gifts that were brought and somewhere in there, was the birth of Jesus. That’s how I sometime feel about this story. I feel we have heard it so many times we hear all the things surrounding the birth of Christ but miss, the birth of Christ. Without the birth, there is no story, without the birth there is no Christ! Christ birth is the story, He has come, He is born, The Lord of Lords, The King of Kings, The Prince of Peace, The messiah.

Today I ask, did you hear? On this day Christ was born. Merry CHRISTmas

Luke 22:43 NIV

20 Dec

An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.

Thought of the day….

Angels…. As we read the bible there are numerous accounts of angels appearing to people. As we approach Christmas day I think about the many times angel’s appeared to Mary, Joseph, the Wise men and others assuring them that the Messiah was to be born and not only born but to a virgin girl no doubt. I think about Joseph and his plan to quietly divorce her without bringing her shame. Matthew 1:19 says because Joseph was a righteous man he was going to divorce her without causing her disgrace. I see so much love in this verse. Here is a man that had not had relations with her and now she is pregnant and the idea of being with child as a virgin was absurd. However I have to believe Joseph loved Mary so much that he was going to make this as painless as possible. Then an Angel appeared and assured him it would be right to stay with her. Where are the angels today? I mean I have heard other people say they must have been watched over by an angel and even though I’m sure I have as well I can’t recall a time that I can say I had a encounter with an angel. Are they there today? Are they visible to you?

Today I ask, have you had an encounter with an angel?

Isaiah 6:8 NIV

19 Dec

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

Thought of the day….

Many times in the Bible the Lord calls out to Abraham, Isaac, Samuel, Jacob, Moses, and others and the response is always “Here I am Lord.” They all seem to be saying, “I’m listening. Lord, what’s next?”  In today’s verse, when the Lord calls out, Isaiah also answers “Here I am” and responds eagerly to the call “Send Me!” I think many times we pray for God’s direction with conditions on what his answer will be. Here I am Lord, your servant is listening, but when we get the answer, we want to say “no, that’s not the answer I wanted to hear, can I get an answer I like better?” When we pray and ask for God’s direction we should be prepared to follow whatever God tells us to do. Here I am Lord, Send Me!

Today I ask, are you willing to do anything God ask you to do? Anything?

Isaiah 9:6 NIV

16 Dec

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Thought of the day….

The New Testament is full of Scripture foretelling the birth of Christ, but today’s reference is found in the Old Testament book of Isaiah. Isaiah is prophesying of the Messiah to come, Jesus, and He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Come let us bow down and worship the King.

Today I ask, are you worshiping the true King?

Matthew 2:1 NKJ

15 Dec

1 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worshp Him.”

Thought of the day….

Several times during the Christmas season the choir in our church has sang a song titled “Wise Men Still Seek Him” It is a beautiful song relating that even today wise men still seek Christ as the Savior of the world. Just like the three wise men that sought after Jesus at his birth. Men today seek the King of the Jews, Jesus, and they bow down and worship Him.

Today I ask, will you seek Him today and worship Him?

Luke 2:11 ESV

14 Dec

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

Thought of the day….

Merry Christmas, there I said it, Merry Christmas. We are in the midst of the season; however all around us we hear it called the “Holiday Season.” Everywhere you turn we hear “Happy Holiday’s”, but the truth is, this holiday season is Christmas. It seem that we try to wrap it all up in pretty paper and bows and put it among a stack of other holidays and then possibly we won’t notice Jesus. I’m sure this isn’t politically correct but without Jesus, there is no holiday. Luke’s gospel, as well as others, proclaims the birth of Christ, The Savior of the world. To coin another phrase “Jesus is the reason for the season.” So I choose to say Merry Christmas because without Christ there is no Christmas.

Today I ask, are you celebrating Christmas or just a holiday?
